What has Ms.Russell's Gang been up to?

Read on to see activities we're doing in class to build our classroom community. Throughout the year, I will write posts that take more of a zoomed-in lens of how I organize specific routines/lessons.

We have been learning how to be "Bucket Fillers" in our class and how to avoid being bucket dippers. The bucket represents your mental and emotional self. When your bucket is full, you feel more confident, secure, calm, patient, and friendly. When your bucket is empty, it contains few, if any, positive thoughts or feelings.   We have been working on ways to help keep others, as well as our own buckets full.

We will be using a clip chart to monitor our choices in our classroom.  The clip chart is divided into 6 colored sections and each day you will start out on blue, in the middle.   Good choices will enable you to move up on the clip chart and poor choices will cause you to move down.

Good choices mean you get to move up!  If you make it beyond the top section, Top Dog, and on to the teacher you will get to add a jewel to your clip!  I can't wait to see all of the sparkly clips on our clip chart!

If you move to the orange or red level on our clip chart, the Parent Contact sections,  you will fill out a behavior reflection to take home for mom and dad to see and sign.  Red also means you will receive an additional consequence that will coincide with the GRE Behavior Matrix.

Last, we have been working hard on becoming excellent readers and writers by
establishing Reading and Writing Workshop Habits.  These including using the SLANT
procedure to help us be better listeners, and THINKING while we are reading.
